Re: THE GIANTS WIN THE...........SUPER BOWL!!!!!!

Disagree completely (especially saying a handful of teams could beat them), but we could go on for hours arguing points back and forth. I just don't believe that any other team could play half of the season with a backup QB and go undefeated. There have indeed been some awesome football teams over the years. It makes for great debate material. In the end though, those Dolphins are STILL the only team to do it though

Re: THE GIANTS WIN THE...........SUPER BOWL!!!!!!

It was much easier to build a "dynasty" back then than it is now. Heck, the Cowboys went 14 straight years with a winning record, beating those Dolphins in the Superbowl the year before they went undefeated. With the current system being what it is, I'm surprised we've not already had an 8-8 team win the big game!

I think a hand full of teams could whip the 72 Dolphins, no question about it.

as for playing with a back up QB, The Pats didn't to do too bad when Brady had to come in after Bledsoe went down. I know they didn't go undefeated but hey......

Re: THE GIANTS WIN THE...........SUPER BOWL!!!!!!

The opponents that the 72 Dolphins beat that year had the lowest winning % of any teams in almost 50 years.

Thank you, but you cant tell any Dolphins fans this. there are several 14-2 teams that, IMO, very easily could have beat the 72 Dolphins.

Parity has nothing to do with it either. I don't really understand that point. It was the winning percentage of what was the 72 Dolphins versus the winning percentage of teams 49 years before that.

I've never really heard anyone try to make a legit argument for the 72 Dolphins being the best team ever either. It's kind of laughable. They had the best season ever by far. That's for sure. They're not in the top 5 teams ever.

Re: THE GIANTS WIN THE...........SUPER BOWL!!!!!!

"While it's true that they could only play who was scheduled, it's also true that with an opponents' winning percentage of .396, the Dolphins' schedule was one of the easiest since 1950 - Opponents' record: 70-108-4"

There were several teams that could have whipped them IN 72. They were lucky that the Redskins took them too lightly. Almost anyone in the NFC East that year could have beat them that year. The only NFC East team they played was the Giants, who finished 1 above .500 that year, and the Giants still gave them fits.
